THE UAJCA CRICKETERS-of-the-YEAR 2022 |

Friday 30th September was the
date or the 2022 Presentation Night, this year for the first time hosted
by the Bradford & Bingley Rugby Union Club. Our thanks go to Erica and
the B & B events team for their efforts on the day. The Night proved
exciting in front of an enormous attendance that just about squeezed
into the events room
at the club. Our guest for the evening was Katie Stewart the YCB manager
for Development of Womens and Girls Cricket in West Yorkshire. Katie
outlined the extent of the rise in W&G cricket referring to a 12-team
league in Leeds-Wetherby. She also welcomed our own initiative and is
keen to work with us in taking next steps towards a full Pathway for
girls in Upper Airedale.

At u-11 players Frank Binns [Upper Wharfedale] and John North [Settle] had a wonderful season for their Dales country clubs with each racking up over 300 points in the Cricketer-of-the-Year awards calculation. But these two excellent [players were headed by a substantial 65 points by Mohammed Zaid Khan [Gt Horton Church] whose record embraced 234 runs, 7 wickets, 6 catches and four run outs in a third consecutive double- winning team for his Bradford based club. | ||||||||

Two leading players, both members of the 2022 UAJCA Yorkshire Festival winning team, exceeded the 300 points mark, almost 50 points ahead of the everyone else in a highly competitive u-13 season. 2021 winner Archie Brooksbank [Crossflatts] was one of the two but this time finished 5 points behind the winner Noah Kennedy (Skipton). Noah's record included 181 runs and 9 wickets, a catch and 2 run outs as a genuine all-rounder. | ||||||||

Hamza Saeed from Gt Horton Church has been a member of UAJCA representative teams since an under-9 and is a proven quality cricketer who is now within the County squad system. He has taken the u-15 Cricketer-of-the Year award by a staggering 115 points margin ahead of Harvey Green of Settle CC. He is a most deserving winner of | ||||||||

THE DEREK HURREN MEMORIAL TROPHY |
U-18 winner Charlie Raby of Oakworth was the final winner of the evening, who as captain of the Oakworth team which retained their William Spencer Cup [won pre-Covid in 2019]. Charlie had an amazing season in a very strong team with his 17 wickets from leg-spin in just 8 fixtures a vital return. His batting also brought him 55 runs and he pipped team mates Jake Keslinke and Jacob Stephens to the award by a 25 point margin. The inaugural u-11 Girls'
League [softball] was contested by four clubs with each team playing six
fixtures. A late flurry of runs from Aliza Hafiz of Gt Horton Church won
her the inaugural award of Girls League Cricketer-of-the-Year by a small
margin ahead of Betsy Wilkinson of Crossflatts CC and Eva Walker of Skipton
CC. Aliza's last match 35 runs score
versus Settle proved decisive.
A silver meal was awarded to Betsy and a bronze medal to Eva |

The winner of the Leading
Girl Cricketer-of-the-Year playing in hardball boys leagues above the
age of 11 was for a second year Freya Craddock,
who unfortunately was not able to be present on the Night [photo from 2021].
Her 177 points just edged out Louisa Hutchinson [Steeton] by 4 points. |

The 4th Leading Young Girl Cricketer of the Year Award for girls playing in the mixed-gender under-11s League was won by Olive Ratcliffe [Embsay] by 10 points following an excellent all round season, with 10 wickets and 61 runs, ahead of Mila Feeney [Skipton] and Simrah Ahmed [GHC]. | ||||||||

An extensive range of prizes
now fully recognising the development of girls cricket and the
continuing rise in softball cricket for all genders. There were 73
individual awards and 14 team presentations. The usual schedule of 90
minutes did though over-run and for future years may need to be planned
as a 2-hour event. UAJCA is also grateful for voluntary professional
photography supplied by Mr Ali Haidery and his son from Timeless Clicks.
The vast attendance over the two sub-parts is difficult to enumerate but
was way ahead of recent years. It is encouraging for all our member
clubs and bodes well for further development.
